Leave Of Absence Benefits Manager — Under direction of the Vice President of Total Rewards, the LOA Benefits Manager is primarily responsible for the management and oversight of the LOA Program and the LOA Administrative Support team. This role ensures LOAs are administered in compliance with state and federal regulations and managed within established service standards. Responsibilities
Oversees and provides total leave of absence claim management from first notice and intake to closure for all affiliate locations and the Service Center. Obtains and reviews updated medical evidence of reason for leave upon receipt for assigned claims. Reviews eligibility guidelines to make accurate eligibility decisions; handles complex leave cases requiring sound judgement based on knowledge, skills, and prior experience. Serves as the primary point of contact for LOA Administrators, Management, Human Resources, Legal, IT, and plan vendors regarding all leaves of absence related processes. Provides instruction to employees and training of affiliate managers, employees and HR staff on procedures for all types of leaves. Maintains accurate records and reporting of affiliate employee leaves in full legal compliance. Develops, generates, and presents reports to analyze leave data and trends including current leaves, returns from leaves, and intermittent leave implications. Serves as the subject matter expert for LOA programs in alignment with the Benefits Director and leadership team. Ensures high level of customer service and provides responsive support throughout the LOA process. Reviews, updates, and maintains LOA policies to ensure legal compliance, proper distribution, and integration with other departments; trains HR and non-HR Managers. Maintains LOA software tracking program (Absence Soft). Oversees integration of leaves (e.g., Workman’s Compensation with FMLA) and integration with other functions (benefits during LOA, payroll, etc.). Provides day-to-day management and development of the LOA support team. Responsible for time off policy maintenance. Participates in continuing education on LOA topics and ensures 100% federal and state compliance where the company operates. Performs special projects as needed. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred. 5+ years’ experience leading and mentoring a team. 3+ years’ specific experience in Leave of Absence Administration Management in a high-volume, fast-paced environment on a national level. In-depth knowledge of FMLA, Military Leaves, and other applicable federal and state laws, and company leave policies. Working knowledge of integration of leaves and benefits. Highly organized and able to structure work in a logical flow. Experience with LOA Management software, preferably Absence Soft. Proactive problem solver and team player who is detail-oriented and flexible; self-starter with the ability to support requests from multiple directions. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters appropriately. Proficiency in MS Office (Word/Excel) and internet/navigation. Demonstrated initiative, ability to prioritize multiple assignments, and manage deadlines. Professional, articulate with good judgment and discretion. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact at all levels of the organization. Work Environment
