Brooklyn, NY High School Special Education Math Teacher (2026 - 2027 School Year) Coney Island Preparatory Public Charter School Brooklyn, New York Overview Coney Island Prep High School is a college preparatory public charter high school in the Gravesend neighborhood of Brooklyn. The school serves grades 9-12 and has a focus on rigorous coursework, college readiness, and supportive, small-school environment. What is the Role? Coney Island Prep is looking for a Special Education teacher with a math background to support high school students. The role emphasizes problem solving, logical reasoning, and flexible thinking, with instruction aligned to students’ IEPs and needs. Teachers prepare assignments, homework, and tests, assess progress, and support growth throughout the school year. The school uses Agile Minds for math curricula to help students understand mathematics and its relevance. What You’ll Be Asked To Do Internalize standards-aligned curriculum and content Manage a caseload of students and prepare for IEP meetings with required reports and documentation Develop and track standards-aligned IEP goals for students with IEPs Lead and monitor Tier 2 interventions for at-risk students Plan and implement Tier 1 interventions and differentiate instruction per IEP mandates Co-teach, co-plan, and co-lead classroom instruction Deliver academically rigorous, culturally relevant lessons and assessments; differentiate instruction based on IEPs and student needs Communicate effectively with students, families, and staff Support school-wide systems, structures, and procedures Use data to improve instructional practice and student outcomes Foster a positive, structured, and engaging learning environment for students with diverse abilities Participate in school duties and professional responsibilities (e.g., homeroom, advisory groups, team meetings, professional development) What You’ll Need Passion for education and commitment to the school’s mission, anti-racism, and inclusive practices Belief that all students can succeed academically Experience with Special Education and working with high school students Bachelor’s degree and NYS teaching certification; Master’s degree in Special Education strongly preferred (CIPHS offers support toward a Master’s degree and NYS certification within two years) Cultural competency to work in diverse, low-income communities Culturally responsive conflict resolution skills Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills; able to meet deadlines Self-reflective and open to feedback with a growth mindset Positive, solution-oriented attitude and collaborative spirit Ability to build positive relationships with families, students, and staff Who Are We?
