— Brooklyn, NY (2026 - 2027 School Year) Coney Island Preparatory Public Charter School Brooklyn, New York Role We are looking for teachers with a background in Special Education to teach High School ELA. You will create a healthy and safe space for scholars to engage in classroom discussion, guide them through the structure and content of the English language, and teach literary interpretation. The curriculum includes Springboard and Quill to support students in understanding text and developing communication and writing skills. What You’ll Be Asked To Do Internalize standards-aligned curriculum and content Manage a caseload of students and prepare for IEP meetings by gathering required reports and documentation from teachers and families Develop and track standards-aligned IEP goals for students with IEPs Lead and monitor the progress of Tier 2 interventions for at-risk students Plan and implement Tier 1 interventions and internalize standards-aligned curriculum and content Co-teach, co-plan, and co-lead classroom instruction Teach academically rigorous and culturally relevant lesson plans, materials, and assessments, and differentiate instruction based on IEP mandates and individual student needs Communicate effectively with scholars, families, and staff Commit to a culture of consistently implementing school-wide systems, structures, and procedures Promote equity and access in the school community Analyze instructional and culture data to improve teaching practice and strengthen student outcomes Create a positive, structured, and engaging learning environment for students with diverse abilities and experiences Participate in school community responsibilities such as lunch duty, dismissal and hallway duties, daily homeroom, advisory groups, staff meetings, professional development, and weekly office hours What You’ll Need Passion for education and dedication to the school's mission and anti-racism commitments Belief that all students can achieve at high academic levels and deserve opportunities to succeed in college and career Experience with Special Education and working with high school students Bachelor's degree and NYS teaching certification required; Master’s degree in Special Education strongly preferred (the school offers $2,000 toward the completion of a Master’s degree and NY State certification within two years) Cultural competencies to work in low-income communities and willingness to examine beliefs and biases across lines of difference Culturally responsive conflict resolution skills Strong organizational, oral, and written communication skills; timeliness, accuracy, and ability to meet deadlines Self-reflective and open to feedback with the desire to grow Positive, solution-oriented attitude and drive for excellence Collaborative mindset and willingness to work as part of a team Proven ability to build positive relationships with families, students, and staff while valuing diversity and inclusivity Who are we? CIPHS enrolls approximately 350 students in grades 9-12, with a focus on college readiness, AP courses, and a supportive environment with extracurricular opportunities.
