Overview
The Cloud System Engineer (AWS) will lead the evaluation, remediation, and modernization of the AWS environment. The role combines technical expertise in AWS architecture, identity and access management, cloud security, and automation with the ability to collaborate across IT and business stakeholders. You will be responsible for assessing the current environment, aligning it to AWS best practices, providing recommendations, and driving improvements, while also supporting workload migrations from AWS to other cloud providers and datacenters, and vice versa. Responsibilities
Assess the current AWS environment and align it to AWS best practices. Provide recommendations and drive improvements across architecture, security, and operations. Collaborate with IT and business stakeholders to implement solutions. Support workload migrations to and from AWS to other cloud providers and datacenters. Develop and maintain automation and IaC using Terraform and/or CloudFormation. Monitor cloud environments, optimize costs, and improve security postures. Lead projects independently, take ownership, and provide direction. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 10+ years of experience supporting enterprise AWS environments. Proficiency in AWS core services (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, ECS/EKS, VPC). Strong understanding of IAM, AWS Organizations, and multi-account governance. Cloud security, monitoring, and cost optimization experience. Infrastructure as code with Terraform and/or CloudFormation. Experience with automation, DevOps practices, and CI/CD pipelines. Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for cloud workloads. Excellent communication skills to convey complex technical issues to technical and non-technical stakeholders. Ability to lead projects independently, take ownership, and provide direction. AWS certifications such as Solutions Architect Professional or DevOps Engineer are strongly preferred. Azure Administrator or Solutions Architect certification a plus. Experience with AWS GovCloud environments is a strong plus. Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, or FedRAMP. Hands-on experience with container orchestration (EKS, AKS) and serverless architectures is preferred.
