Overview
Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Biology at Hofstra University. The Department of Biology welcomes applications in the area of Microbiology.
We are seeking a microbiologist with a research focus on a non-pathogenic bacterial model system, using a combination of classical microbiology and molecular tools to address topics such as microbial cell structure, microbial biochemistry, microbial genetic mechanisms, or microbial physiology.
Responsibilities The successful candidate is expected to:
Teach lecture and lab courses in microbiology, introductory molecular/cell biology and upper-level courses that complement current course offerings.
Establish and maintain an externally-funded research program that complements the needs of our department and is accessible to both undergraduate and Master\'s research students.

Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in microbiology, biology or closely related discipline
Postdoctoral research experience in microbiology and a well-developed research plan
Experience teaching undergraduate biology courses as instructor of record
Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate education
Preferred Qualifications
Teaching experience in the field of microbiology
Experience teaching lecture and laboratory introductory biology courses as instructor of record
Experience applying active-learning or student-centered pedagogy
Demonstrated expertise in combining classical bacteriology and bioinformatics in microbiological research
Experience collaborating in a coordinated teaching environment for multi-section courses
