Overview KGW in Portland, Oregon is looking for a dynamic, experienced morning news anchor to join our powerhouse morning team. Our ideal candidate is a solid journalist, charismatic communicator and an exceptional teammate. The anchor should understand the job is about more than just reading the news – it’s about being a leader who pushes for strong newscasts every day and who builds authentic connections with our audience on all platforms.

Responsibilities

Anchor weekday morning newscasts – including shows on both linear and digital/streaming platforms

Produce engaging social and digital content, including compelling social videos

Edit or write scripts daily, ensuring they are accurate, timely and clear

Work closely with producers, executive producer, reporters, editors, photographers, directors and others to create engaging content

Lead coverage of breaking news from the desk, including conducting live interviews

Attract viewers to our newscasts through engaging social posts, station promos and community events

Serve as a newsroom leader, helping shape the tone, content, and storytelling approach of the morning show

Always represent KGW with professionalism and journalistic integrity

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field

Minimum 3 years of anchoring experience in a competitive news market, preferably on morning newscasts

Proven ability to handle breaking news and unscripted moments with poise and accuracy

Outstanding writing, storytelling, and interpersonal communication skills

Strong on-camera presence and comfort with live reporting

Experience using newsroom tools like ENPS, video editing software, and digital CMS

Willingness to work early morning hours, holidays, and occasional extended shifts
