Job Title: STAFF SCIENTIST Position Number: 8150999 Job Category: University Staff Job Type: Full-Time FLSA Status: Exempt Campus: Maywood-Health Sciences Campus Department: DEPARTMENT OF MEDICINE Location Code: DEPARTMENT OF MEDICINE (06500A) Funding: Yes Duties and Responsibilities
Planning, implementation and analysis of advanced scientific research projects Interprets data; statistical and data analysis Advises and assists with experimental design and execution Maintains laboratory equipment for the Department/Institute by working with the Division Administrator, Sales Reps, Technical Specialists, Repair companies and the Purchasing Department to maintain current equipment and procure new purchases Evaluates need for new technologies and train laboratory staff on proper use of equipment Collaborates with Faculty and other Researchers Participates in the preparation and writing of Grant Applications and Reports and co-authors scientific research manuscripts Operates and maintains a variety of scientific instrumentation essential to laboratory work (e.g., microscopes, centrifuges, incubators, autoclaves) Employs safety measures in working with hazardous chemicals, laboratory animals, and radioisotopes Performs proper recording of procedures related to research studies and the systematic organization of experimental data Performs other duties as required Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
Required: Doctoral Degree (MD or PhD) in Molecular Biology, Biology, Biochemistry, Physiology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Immunology, or other Biomedical Sciences Minimum 2 – 5 years of completed mentored Postdoctoral Scientific Training or work experience Qualifications
Ability to analyze and interpret data Ability to communicate verbally Ability to compose Letters and Memorandums Ability to deal calmly and courteously with people Ability to deal with stressful situations Ability to finish tasks in a timely manner Ability to follow oral and written instructions and established procedures Ability to function independently and manage own time and work tasks Ability to maintain accuracy and consistency Ability to maintain confidentiality Ability to plan, coordinate and develop multiple projects Ability to work as an effective team member Certificates/Credentials/Licenses
