Position Overview
Director, Thermal Project Management. You will be responsible for overseeing thermal power plants, managing and coordinating efforts across multiple teams from development to COD. Lead resources to support project execution and construction, coordinating technical, economic, and commercial aspects. Lead a team of specialists to develop, design, and build combustion projects utilizing gas turbines for simple cycles, combined cycles, and cogeneration facilities, as well as natural gas reciprocating engines. This role may lead one project or multiple projects at a time, covering project development (including permitting), engineering, construction, budget, risk, and schedule management to ensure completion on time, within scope and budget. This position will be based in the Invenergy office in Chicago, IL, with technical supervision during project execution requiring travel to the project site. General Responsibilities
Lead all efforts in the assigned project(s) throughout the project lifecycle from development to COD, delivering according to scope, budget, and schedule. Manage workload and resources across multiple teams, promoting seamless coordination across disciplines. Represent the company in discussions with third parties, stakeholders, regulatory bodies, permitting agencies, and the project’s customer. Coordinate project interfaces across multiple contractors and work packages to ensure adherence to budget and schedule. Coordinate other project managers and functions assigned to your team, as applicable. Specific Responsibilities
Project management Coordinate project meetings and communications to ensure project goals are met. Evaluate proposals and collaborate with commercial and finance teams on cost modeling inputs for optimization. Identify and evaluate risks and prevent flaws in the project. Provide periodic reports for management and the client as needed. Implement and maintain a track record of lessons learned and ensure record keeping for the project per company policies. Engineering Guide the engineering team to meet project goals and client expectations; collaborate to optimize design, layout, CAPEX, and OPEX. Supervise technical documentation for requisitions and solicitations with contractors and third parties. Procurement Coordinate with procurement on SOIs, RFIs, RFPs, RFQs, and other documents; participate in evaluating suppliers’ technical and economic proposals. Support contract discussions with OEMs, suppliers, and contractors. Permitting, interconnection, and real estate Collaborate with real estate and development teams to prepare required documentation for permits and interconnection; oversee permitting and approvals with regulatory and engineering teams to secure permits per project plan. Construction and commissioning Lead negotiations with EPC contractors; manage progress meetings with contractors; proactively analyze risks and provide solutions; monitor activities onsite and from the main office; assist in commissioning; manage interfaces across packages and stakeholders; ensure adherence to scope, quality, safety, and environmental requirements. Legal and contract management Lead negotiations during construction agreements; manage internal interfaces with legal and contract groups; manage scope changes and risks during negotiations and execution. Finance and corporate interfaces Provide inputs to define CAPEX, OPEX, and project contingency; identify financial impacts of risks; liaise with internal departments and lenders/engineers as needed. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, civil, electrical, or structural engineering with relevant power generation experience. 10+ years in combustion power plants with gas turbines, steam turbines, and reciprocating engines. Proven track record delivering large-scale power plants from development to COD; site experience on projects under construction. Ability to travel up to 25%; travel frequency may vary during project execution. Eligible to work in the United States without employer visa sponsorship now or in the future. Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in mechanical, civil, electrical, or structural engineering with relevant power generation experience. Experience managing interfaces between contractors and contract negotiations; multi-tasking across multiple project packages. Strong organizational, writing, interpersonal, and leadership skills; high integrity and adherence to ethical standards. Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Base Pay
170,000.00 - 200,000.00 USD annual; Bonus: 30% - 40% The base pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target salary for the position. Additional compensation may include eligibility for bonus programs; recruiter can share more during hiring.
