A rapidly growing clean energy organization is building a localized battery supply chain that integrates recovery, reuse, and recycling of critical minerals. We are seeking a

Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) Electrical Engineer

to join our team. This role is central to designing scalable, high-performance energy storage infrastructure for both utility-scale and distributed applications. The mission is to build a sustainable circular economy for lithium-ion batteries by transforming recycled materials into high-quality inputs for new batteries. Key Responsibilities

Lead electrical engineering efforts for utility-scale lithium-ion BESS projects, from concept (system sizing, layout) through construction. Interface with utilities and ISO/RTOs to support interconnection studies, permitting, and compliance. Serve as internal subject matter expert (SME) for BESS-related technical challenges. Design AC/DC electrical systems including transformers, inverters, combiners, and battery modules. Develop schematic diagrams, single-line diagrams, wiring schematics, grounding, and protection strategies. Specify and evaluate electrical components (breakers, contactors, fuses, EPO systems, meters). Coordinate with civil, structural, SCADA, fire/life safety, and DC system teams for complete IFC packages. Ensure compliance with NEC 705, NEC 706, IEEE 1547, UL 9540, NFPA 855, and local codes. Support grid integration and interconnection with renewable and conventional sources. Conduct power system studies (short circuit, load flow, arc flash, coordination). Act as the Electrical Engineer of Record on assigned projects. Stay current on BESS technologies, codes, and trends. Lead R&D initiatives on integrating BESS with MVDC distribution. Provide construction administration support (RFIs, submittals, site inspections). Track scope, schedule, and budget across stakeholders. Prepare cost estimates and schedules; perform QA/QC reviews and mentor junior engineers. Contribute to internal design standards, templates, and best practices. Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program. Professional Engineer (PE) license in Nevada or eligible via reciprocity (must obtain NV and SC PE within 2 months). 5+ years of experience in solar, energy storage, or microgrids; 3+ years in BESS design/deployment. Expertise in interconnection and regulatory compliance for BESS systems. Advanced knowledge of NEC 705/706, IEEE 1547, UL 9540, NFPA 855. Proficiency in: Microgrid modeling (HOMER or similar) Power system modeling (ETAP, SKM, or similar) AutoCAD/Revit, Navisworks, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office Preferred familiarity with: PSSE/PSLF, PSCAD/EMTC SEL AcSELerator or equivalent HVDC and converter station design Strong understanding of storage use cases (peak shaving, load shifting, demand/frequency response).
