The phlebotomist will work under the direct supervision of the nurse manager and practice nurses. You will also work as part of the wider practice multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

Performing phlebotomy as requested by the clinical team for the practice population. Phlebotomy will also be required as part of annual disease reviews and medicianes management as part of our patient safety monitoring.

Job responsibilities

Job responsibilities include:

  • Obtaining consent prior to blood collection
  • Performing venepuncture in accordance with infection control practices and practice protocols
  • Correctly label, package and store samples and complete patient records on the clinical IT system
  • Ensure timely transportation of samples to the laboratory
  • Work collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance where necessary for patient- related matters
  • Support local initiatives to improve service delivery and patient care
  • Participate in shared learning activities within the practice
  • Follow confidentiality, equality, diversity and inclusion policies
  • Adhere to to GDPR, confidentiality and health and safety policies and other practice protocols
  • Work effectively as part of the multidisciplinary team

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Relevant qualification and experience in phlebotomy
  • Experience of working in a healthcare setting
  • Familiar with EMIS clinical system
  • Experience in primary are environment

Experience

  • Ability to record accurate clinical notes.
  • Effective time management and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of the team.
  • Sensitive and empathetic in distressing situations.
  • DBS clearance and be up to date with required vaccinations including Hepatitis B.

Knowledge and skills

  • Ability to provide quality care
  • Basic IT Skills
