Overview
Position: Senior Equipment Operator - Solid Waste. Status: Open. This role provides lead supervision over a crew of maintenance personnel, operates heavy equipment, and participates in a wide variety of solid waste tasks, including residential trash collection.
Responsibilities
- Lead and participate in the collection of residential heavy trash.
- Perform the more complex and difficult operation of heavy equipment including brush loaders, wheel loaders and grinders.
- Set up a job site ensuring the use of basic safety rules, appropriate equipment and proper work techniques.
- Lead and participate in the collection of residential heavy trash and garbage.
- Respond to public inquiries regarding residential trash and garbage.
- Complete a variety of reports and forms including time and equipment records and work orders.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of materials, methods, practices and equipment used in solid waste activities.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety precautions necessary in the work.
- Knowledge of procedures for requisitions and purchasing necessary materials and supplies.
- Knowledge of operation of a variety of heavy and light equipment depending on area of assignment.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of lead supervision and training.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instruction.
- Ability to identify necessary tasks in solid waste activities.
- Ability to perform a variety of heavy manual tasks, occasionally under severe weather conditions.
- Ability to use and care for assigned machinery, equipment, and tools.
- Ability to prepare reports and maintain records.
- Ability to read and interpret street maps.
- Ability to train and provide lead supervision to a small work crew.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people contacted in the course of work.
Training and Experience
Two years of experience performing highly skilled work in the operation of light and heavy equipment and a High School Diploma or GED.
Licenses and Certificates
Possession of, or ability to obtain within three months, a valid Texas Class A CDL.
