Responsibilities

• Custodian duties under supervision of the Principal, Building Administrator and Head Custodian; perform daily custodial tasks for Wayne Public Schools District; shifts (1st day, 2nd night) assigned by District Custodial Supervisors in coordination with Building Principal/Administrator and Head Custodian.
• Grounds: remove litter, ensure playground safety; perform grounds maintenance (mowing, edging, trimming trees/shrubs, weeding planter beds).
• Lights: replace bulbs, turn off lights in unoccupied rooms, ensure exterior lights on at night; maintain location of switches and fixtures; clean fixtures and lenses annually.
• Custodial Cleaning by area (Daily/Weekly/Monthly) including Entrances, Lobbies, Corridors; Classrooms and Laboratories; Office, Lounge and Conference Rooms; Restrooms, Locker Rooms and Showers; Cafeterias and Lunch Areas; Shop Areas; Gyms and Multipurpose Rooms; Shower Rooms, Locker Rooms and Dressing Rooms; Benches, Furniture and Lockers; Showers cleanup and related tasks; Vomit cleanup as needed following safety protocols.
• Open buildings, check HVAC operations, inspect exterior for unauthorized entry, perform minor repairs and light bulb replacement; maintain cleanliness of mechanical/electrical/boiler rooms and custodial closets; assist with sick student cleanups and event setups; assist in deliveries and emergency duties as directed by Principal or Head Custodian; restock restrooms and maintain supplies.

Qualifications

• Education and Experience: High School diploma or GED; five years of skilled custodial experience is preferred.
• Licenses: Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record; Low Pressure Boiler License is required.
• Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Must have strength, stamina and mobility for indoor/outdoor work in all weather; snow removal and salting in inclement weather; ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds with proper equipment; good vision/hearing/speech; ability to work overtime/emergency as required.
• Knowledge: Principles and practices of custodial operations in educational settings; safety practices; building regulations; inventory control.
• Skills: Planning, prioritizing, scheduling, coordinating, inspecting custodial duties; minor repair capabilities; clear communication with staff and the public.
