DC Design Manager for Region (AMER), Data Center Engineering — Amazon Web Services (AWS). AWS is seeking a Sr. Regional Design Manager to join its design team. As a Sr. Regional Design Manager, you will be part of a global engineering leadership team comprising Architects, Structural, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Security and Control Engineers. AWS self-performs engineering on the majority of our capacity delivery projects. This role influences design direction and improves design delivery for an entire region, while establishing design procedures and protocols for future systems. You will collaborate with many facets of the AWS organization, external engineering resources and regulatory agencies. AWS data centers are known for innovation in space utilization, energy efficiency, and cost effectiveness, with emphasis on speed to market and reliability. This role sits within the global team responsible for the design and operation of critical Data Center facilities worldwide. Lead project teams of discipline leads to deliver quality and globally consistent data center designs across Americas within schedule and cost constraints while maintaining a high level of quality. Able to influence internal stakeholders, internal customers (operations), and external consultants to address program-wide design changes Manage escalations from the design team and collaborate with procurement, construction and external consultants Identify disciplines impacted in design issues to drive cross-disciplinary design decisions Understand design development, design change management, permitting (working with AHJs), and implementation (working with CMs/RFIs/Submittals) lifecycle Project management skills (critical path schedule management, risk management, quality management, cost management) Design consultant management including procurement, contracting, deliverable management, and payments Communicate effectively with AWS Leadership and external project partners, including creation, tracking & reporting of metrics related to schedule, cost, and quality throughout the project lifecycle Think creatively to find innovative solutions to reduce contract change orders without compromising quality or reliability Prioritize between competing priorities and create robust resolution frameworks in ambiguous situations Drive speed, quality, and simplification by eliminating rework, reducing and automating manual work and hand-offs, and standardizing to minimize process variability Create global best practice documentation and facilitate sharing across the globe Motivate others to achieve impeccable quality in a growth-driven, deadline-focused environment Travel for site assessments, internal design meetings, construction reviews, and interfacing with design consultants; anticipated travel not to exceed 25% with potential international travel About the team and environment

Basic Qualifications
6+ years experience managing staff / consultants / vendors; 6+ years of design experience in commercial / industrial / other complex technical projects 7+ years of large-scale Mission Critical facility design experience; 5+ years leading sub-consultants and project teams Bachelor or Master’s degree (MBA, Engineering, Architecture, Construction) Preferred Qualifications
Professional Engineering/Architecture License 3+ years of large-scale Data Center facility design experience 10+ years of experience directly related to data center design, construction, operations, and/or facility maintenance Ability to communicate complex technical issues to senior leadership or non-engineers; develop basic business case projections and create performance metrics Direct experience negotiating with regulatory agencies regarding departures from building codes and construction change orders Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status. The base pay range for this position is $128,600/year to $212,800/year, with variability based on location, knowledge, skills, and experience.
