DC Design Manager AMER Region, Data Center Engineering Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Sr. Regional Design Manager to join its design team. The role is part of a global engineering leadership team comprising highly effective Architects, Structural, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Security, and Control Engineers. The Design Manager will impact design direction, improve delivery across a region, establish procedures, and collaborate with AWS organization, external resources, and regulatory agencies.

Key Job Responsibilities

Lead project teams of discipline leads to deliver quality and globally consistent data center designs across the Americas within schedule and cost constraints while maintaining a high level of quality.

Influence internal stakeholders, operations teams, and external consultants to address program-wide design changes.

Manage escalations from the design team and collaborate with procurement, construction, and external consultants.

Identify disciplines impacted by design issues to drive cross-disciplinary design decisions.

Oversee design development, change management, permitting (working with AHJ), and implementation lifecycle.

Apply project management skills including critical‑path schedule management, risk, quality, and cost management.

Manage design consultant procurement, contracting, deliverables, and payments.

Communicate effectively with AWS Leadership and external partners, including tracking and reporting metrics related to schedule, cost, and quality.

Innovate to reduce contract change orders without impacting quality or reliability.

Prioritize competing priorities and create resolution frameworks in ambiguous situations.

Drive speed, quality, and simplification by eliminating rework loops, automating manual work, and standardizing best practices across the business.

Create global best‑practice documentation and facilitate sharing across the organization.

Demonstrate motivation and leadership to achieve impeccable quality in a growth‑driven, deadline‑oriented environment.

Travel for site assessments, internal design meetings, construction reviews, and design‑consultant interfacing (anticipated travel not to exceed 25%; international travel may be required).

About the Team AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, including data centers. The team delivers safety, security, and the highest standards of reliability while minimizing cost. Basic Qualifications

6+ years experience managing staff, consultants, and vendors.

6+ years of design experience in commercial/industrial or other complex technical projects.

7+ years of large‑scale mission‑critical facility design experience.

5+ years leading sub‑consultants and project teams.

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (MBA, Engineering, Architecture, Construction).

Preferred Qualifications

Professional Engineering/Architecture license.

3+ years of large‑scale data center facility design experience.

10+ years of experience directly related to data center design, construction, operations, and/or facility maintenance.

Strong communication skills to convey complex technical issues to senior leadership or non‑engineers.

Experience negotiating with regulatory agencies on building code deviations and construction change orders.

Base pay for this position ranges from $128,600 to $212,800 per year, varying by location and experience. Compensation benefits include medical, financial, and other benefits, equity, and sign‑on incentives as applicable.
