We're the sole designer, builder and refueler of U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and one of two providers of U.S. Navy nuclear submarines. The Role Researches, develops, designs, and/or tests components, equipment, systems, and networks in one or more engineering disciplines. May design equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes. Applies engineering principles to components and systems, including assembly, analysis, and documentation of results; construction of developmental assemblies, sub-assemblies and components; and quality testing. The individual should be experienced in the design and/or testing of Naval nuclear propulsion plant systems and components, and must be able to apply engineering principles, theory, technology, and tools to analyze and resolve complex engineering problems in new and existing electrical component designs. Must Have Bachelor's Degree and 14 years of relevant exempt experience Master's Degree and 12 years of relevant professional experience; Ph.D. and 9 years of experience. Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program. Nice to Have Strong background in Planning Yard (PY) responsibilities Strong working knowledge of problem solving, root cause analysis, and project management Must have a high degree of organizational skills and attention to detail Serve as a mentor to supervisors/engineers to develop their knowledge, technical skills, and expertise Provide technical oversight, guidance, training, and facilitation of personnel development to ensure growth of the technical staff and successful completion of projects The ideal candidate will also have experience with MIL-SPEC qualification requirements and testing, including for shock, vibration, environmental, and electromagnetic interference (EMI). Drive continuous improvement initiatives in development and testing processes to enhance efficiency, quality, and reliability.
