Sr. Project Engineer - Rail Bridge
to join our Transportation Team. This role offers the opportunity to engage in transformative projects that enhance transportation infrastructure and improve community connectivity, focusing on resilient, sustainable design and construction for multimodal roadway systems. What You Will Do
GFT’s Transportation Team works on highways, bridges, and traffic engineering projects. The Sr. Project Engineer will contribute to design, rehabilitation, inspection, load ratings, construction documents, specifications, and estimates. Duties may include construction inspection services. Travel to project sites is required, and collaboration within a multi-disciplinary team is essential. This position is part of the award-winning AREMA Hay Award team. You will: Perform structural bridge design utilizing current AREMA standards and calculate structural quantities. Oversee overall project management, project design, budgets and schedules, quality reviews, mentorship of junior engineers, and coordination with staff. Develop and present proposals to clients with Client Managers. Plan and execute project meetings; address scope changes or schedule accelerations with clients as needed. Ensure quality control and quality assurance guidelines are met. Interpret contract changes and advise management on needed actions. Contribute to client marketing meetings and document design calculations per GFT’s Quality Management Plan. Perform detailed checking of calculations and design drawings; assist with CADD drawing development and production. Research design options and document findings for Senior Project Engineer; may perform bridge inspections for highway and railway bridges. May participate in non-design activities such as construction inspection and field data collection; report to Project Manager or Senior Project Engineers. Maintain accuracy of engineering design, reports, load ratings, and plans; manage budgets, schedules, and company standards; keep Senior Project Manager informed of workload and changes. Maintain professional knowledge through workshops, publications, networks, and professional societies. Be willing to travel within the continental United States. What You Will Bring To Our Firm
Bachelor’s degree in civil/structural engineering with emphasis in structures from an ABET-accredited university. Minimum 10 years’ experience in design and/or management of rail or railroad-focused projects. Professional Engineer (PE) license. Structures design experience using AREMA Manual for Railroad Engineering. Familiarity with Class I railroad bridge standards. Structural engineering background with MicroStation experience; cost estimates and knowledge of related design drawings and specifications. Strong teamwork and communication skills; working knowledge of MS Office; experience with MicroStation and structural analysis software (e.g., Bluebeam Revu, LEAP Bridge, LPILE, GROUP, RISA, or CSIBridge). Able to travel within the continental United States; physically capable of field work including working at heights and in adverse weather. Valid Driver’s License. Preferred
Master’s degree in civil/structural engineering with emphasis in structures from an ABET-accredited university. Experience working directly with Class I railroads. AREMA member and Committee 8, 9, or 15 members. NHI 2-Week course – Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridge. Compensation & Benefits
Salary range:
$105,000 - $155,000 . Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location. Hybrid (in-person and remote) work environment.
