Apply knowledge, methodologies, and principles of safety engineering as defined in MIL-STD-882E and Software Safety engineering as defined in the Joint Software System Safety Engineering Handbook (JSSSEH) Evaluate product systems, associated support equipment, functional specifications and operations to establish safety criteria for assigned systems Independently analyze system design, equipment, and procedures for hazards and categorize hazard risks in accordance with MIL_STD-882E Assess implementations for hazard and causal factors to satisfy critical system safety objectives Collaborate with various design teams in the execution of various MIL-STD-882E hazard analyses Review and prepare engineering and technical analyses, reports, change proposals, and other technical documentation for system safety and in support of Airworthiness Certification IAW MIL-HDBK-516 Review Test Plans and Procedures for safety requirements verification and potential hazardous operations Perform hardware/software safety analyses (experience in AGILE development) Basic Qualifications

Principal Software System Safety Engineer: Bachelor of Science in a STEM discipline with 5 years of military/professional experience or Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline with 3 years of experience or PhD with 1 year Senior Principal Software System Safety Engineer: Bachelor of Science in a STEM discipline with 8 years of experience or Master of Science in a STEM discipline with 6 years of experience or PhD in a STEM discipline with 4 years of experience Must have a DoD Secret clearance to apply with the ability to obtain and maintain an interim Top Secret prior to starting; Top Secret clearance within a reasonable time as determined by business needs Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Computer Engineering Active Top Secret clearance Familiarity with tools such as DOORS, Cameo, CPLM; Safety and Reliability tools such as PTC Windchill Quality Solutions; Agile software tools, JIRA, FISHEYE and Confluence Ability to analyze, recommend, and drive safety into system design to mitigate hazards Apply system safety engineering principles per MIL-STD-882; perform analyses such as preliminary hazard analyses, function/system hazard analyses, fault tree analyses, software system safety analyses and safety assessment reports Experience in requirements development, system/software architecture, hardware/software design, testing, verification, and validation Demonstrated ability to develop, review, update and approve system safety artifacts and requirements Strong knowledge of Military systems safety standards and industry equivalents (e.g., MIL-STD-882, DO-178B/C, DO-254, ARP-4754, ARP-4761, MIL-HDBK-516C) Experience in Hardware/Software Integration and military aviation Primary Level Salary Range: $95,300.00 - $142,900.00 Secondary Level Salary Range: $118,600.00 - $178,000.00 The above salary ranges are a general guideline. Northrop Grumman considers factors such as scope, responsibilities, candidate experience, education, skills, and market conditions when determining base salary offers. Overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonuses, and long-term incentives may apply where applicable.
