is seeking

a Hospital Security Officer

to perform duties needed to maintain a safe and secure environment in the Emergency Department for patients, visitors, and staff at the University of Iowa Health Care (UI Health Care). Officers considered for this position will be exclusively staffed in the Emergency Department at UI Health Care. Responsibilities

Provide exceptional customer service to patients, visitors, and staff entering the hospital Emergency Department Screen patients and visitors entering Emergency Department using appropriate technology and procedures Coordinate lock down procedures Assist medical staff with patients and families in crisis Assist with wayfinding and information to patients, visitors, and staff Perform security checks, patrol facility, and monitor special assignments Collaborate with the medical care team in providing a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors Act as a liaison to UIPD, law enforcement agencies and EMS Conduct incident investigations and provide documentation for analysis Respond to issues related to door access control Assist with traffic and parking in emergency room parking lot Respond to and resolve emergency calls for service Review security video surveillance for the Emergency Department and/or adjacent areas Maintain a working knowledge of the security software systems that support the security plan for the Emergency Department Assist hospital staff with escort of patients from the Emergency Department Assist patients with their personal belongings or valuables Provide effective oral and written communication Maintain a working knowledge of institution policies and procedures and adhere to all institution policies and procedures Ability to walk and climb stairs Ability to lift and carry fifty pounds Ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions Ability to see and hear accurately in both day and nighttime conditions Other duties as assigned to support the Safety and Security Department About UI Health Care

Two years’ experience in security and safety, or fire safety, or law enforcement; or One year of post-high school education related to security and safety and one year of experience in security and safety; or Two years of post-high school education related to security and safety Possession of appropriate driver’s license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards Ability to obtain basic certification from International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) within 6 months of hire and maintain certification for duration of employment Key Training/Compliance

IAHSS Basic Online Course to be completed within 6 months of start date Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) 8 hour - to be completed in first 90 days Health Safety Professional (HSP) - to be completed in first 90 days Desirable Requirements

Two years of customer service experience Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) Exceptional written and verbal communication skills Application Process
