Description
Northrop Grumman is seeking an Environmental Engineer – level 3 or 4 to join our team in Elkton, Maryland. The Environmental Engineer is responsible for environmental and regulatory compliance. They will administer existing policies as well as adhere to and update standards to support regulatory compliance and provide guidance for site operations. The individual will review and monitor metrics and create risk analyses, following EPA as well as state and local government regulatory agency regulations and mandates. The Environmental Engineer will work with internal and external partners that include government entities, contractors, consultants, design, construction, engineering, operations, and other key departments. The EHS Engineer will work with regulations and policies related to, but not limited to: the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, EPCRA, and RCRA. The Environmental Engineer must have excellent communication skills, environmental regulatory knowledge, risk analysis skills, and experience working with teams for complex and technical projects.
Primary Responsibilities
Interpret and communicate environmental requirements, identify compliance issues, act as a subject matter expert, and coordinate key initiatives with facility personnel, legal, and other stakeholders. Ensure inspections are completed as and where needed, such as storm water, air quality, spill prevention, and any other required inspections. Function as a point of contact for regulatory agency interactions, permit evaluation and processes, and new process and technology introductions including the preparation and submittal of reports, permits, and notifications to federal, state, and local government agencies. Ensure environmental regulatory work performed by contractors, consultants, and employees is completed in accordance with applicable standards. Conduct internal environmental audits for continuous improvement. Manage a risk analysis overview of environmental risks within the company based on tracking and trending of environmental issues or incidents. Drive an environmentally responsible culture within the organization. Complete thorough and accurate environmental incident investigations and associated regulatory reporting, with follow up on any corrective actions. Complete all required internal and external environmental reporting. Support and direct sustainability initiatives. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong analytical skills with a demonstrated problem-solving ability and self-motivation in a team environment. Knowledge of US environmental laws. Display organizational and project management skills through complex tasks involving multiple internal and external parties. Proficient with MS Excel, Word, and Windows Operating Systems. Qualifications for level 3: Must have a Diploma and 9 years of experience. Will consider those with a bachelor’s degree and 5 years of experience or a master’s degree with 3 years of experience. 5 years of applicable experience with environmental regulations and/or compliance programs. Experience effectively communicating technical information including complex and changing regulatory requirements and their impacts to the company. Must be a US citizen and have the ability to obtain a secret clearance. Qualifications for level 4: Must have a Diploma and 13 years of experience. Will consider those with a bachelor’s degree and 9 years of experience or a master’s degree with 7 years of experience. 5 years of applicable experience with environmental regulations and/or compliance programs. Experience effectively communicating technical information including complex and changing regulatory requirements and their impacts to the company. Must be a US citizen and have the ability to obtain a secret clearance. Preferred Qualifications for both levels: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Environmental Engineering, Natural Resources, or closely-related field. Possess a current secret clearance. Salary ranges: Primary Level $95,800.00 - $143,600.00; Secondary Level $119,200.00 - $178,800.00. The above salary range represents a general guideline; actual offers depend on scope, responsibilities, candidate experience, education, skills, and market conditions. Depending on the position, overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus may be offered. Annual bonuses may reward individual contributions and company results. Senior roles may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
