DSHS FTAA Grounds and Landscaping Supervisor Do you have experience with gardening and grounds maintenance? We are excited to have an opportunity for a Grounds and Nursery Services Specialist to join our team as a DSHS FTAA Grounds and Landscaping Supervisor at our newest behavioral health treatment campus, Maple Lane, near Thurston-Grand Mound, WA. Behavioral Health Treatment Center Maple Lane offers innovative treatment for residents who are civilly committed, in need of competency restoration, or adjudicated not guilty by reason of mental diagnosis. Each residential unit helps shape the future of behavioral health, aligning with Washington State’s vision of community-based care. Treating residents in smaller facilities helps them stay closer to home, family, and support systems, fostering stronger community connections. Within the Maintenance Operations Division located at BHTC, Maple Lane, under the general supervision of the Facility Manager, this position performs skilled gardening work in the maintenance of grounds, landscapes, nurseries, and instructs the work of others including staff. Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary. Work schedule: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM (Monday to Friday) Responsibilities
Supervises Grounds shop, assigns work to a crew of two Grounds and Nursery Services Specialist 3s and one Grounds and Nursery Specialist 2. Performs skilled lawn and nursery work Applies pesticides and herbicides to flowers and shrubs; seeds, mows, irrigates, fertilizes, and maintains lawns Uses a variety of manual tools and equipment such as rakes, pruning shears, hand edgers, loppers, shovels, wheelbarrows and pesticide sprayers Operates power and motorized equipment such as commercial mowers, weed trimmers, chainsaws, power washers, backpack blowers, rototillers, light tractors, front end loaders, small trucks, lawn mowers, sweepers, aerators, sod cutters and snow blowers Cleans, services, adjusts and makes repairs to tools and equipment Places requests for parts and supplies via TRACKS Applies and supervises others in application of pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers on campus Evaluates work of subordinates; coordinates with outside vendors for special projects Other duties as assigned Who should apply
People with high school graduation or equivalent Minimum two years of experience or training involving grounds maintenance, gardening, plant care, cultivation, and landscape work in gardening or grounds maintenance; at least one year must have been lead or supervisory experience.
