Department of Parks and Recreation

is seeking a motivated and experienced

Senior Grounds Keeper

to lead efforts in maintaining and enhancing our outdoor spaces in the Kapolei/Waianae areas. This full-time, permanent position involves supervising and participating in the care of lawn and landscape areas, as well as the beautification of parks, playgrounds, and facilities. Responsibilities

Perform groundskeeping tasks including cleaning, watering, trimming, weeding, sweeping, and raking lawn areas, as well as maintaining parking and other outdoor areas. Supervise groundskeepers and CSSB workers, and serve as acting grounds maintenance supervisor when needed. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation by cleaning comfort stations, sweeping, mopping floors, and disposing of rubbish. Inspect parks, grounds, building facilities, and play apparatus, including making periodic checks for hazardous conditions and performing minor sprinkler repairs. Operate a pick-up truck and preparing reports while encouraging and enforcing safety practices and park regulations. Perform other related duties as required. Special Work Requirements

Work schedule is from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with varying days off. May be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays. Will serve as a Disaster Response Worker during declared emergencies. Experience and Competencies

Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to show competence in the care and maintenance of grounds and landscaped areas. Knowledge of the care, cultivation, and propagation of shrubs, flowers, trees, and lawns. Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of grounds maintenance equipment and tools. Ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of others. Ability to follow and give clear oral and written instructions. Ability to operate hand and power tools and equipment used in grounds maintenance. Ability to properly care for and cultivate plants, trees, and turf areas. Ability to promote and enforce safe work practices. License Requirement

Valid driver\'s license (Type 3), as required. Obtain and maintain from City Health Services, Hearing Conservation Program (HCP) test, prior to appointment. Training and Examination
