Inside Higher Ed The person in this position will play a key role in developing integrative and critical approaches for using AI across the Visual Arts. Position Overview We seek a tenure-track assistant professor who is an artist whose research engages emerging Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in relation to multidisciplinary practices in the visual arts. This position would be a 50/50 joint appointment at the Assistant Professor level, shared between the Department of Art and the Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design (ACCAD) with the Department of Art as the tenure home. Performance Objectives Maintain an active research agenda in the area of AI in relation to the Visual Arts. Engage with a national and/or international community of artists working in AI in the Visual Arts. Teach undergraduate courses and/or graduate courses on foundational and advanced topics in AI in the visual arts. Lead discussions and activities exploring the ethical, critical, historical, and political dimensions of AI, examining its evolution and impact on society. Provide hands-on instruction in practical skills, including coding, data gathering, and digital to physical production workflows. Lead group critiques to provide critical feedback on conceptual and technical aspects of students' work. Advise and mentor students and help develop their creative vision, technical skills and professional practices. Work collaboratively with colleagues within the Department of Art and the Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design to develop curriculum and programmatic revisions. Work collaboratively with Faculty, Research Staff, and GRAs at ACCAD on research projects involving partners from across the University and the broader community. Serve on various departmental committees. Required Terminal degree in Art or other related field by August 15, 2026. Demonstrated experience working with multiple AI workflows, tools, and technologies relevant to creative practices. Creative Research outcomes using mediums other than screens or digital displays Desired Experience teaching in a higher education setting Experience in curriculum development Experience collaborating with others on creative projects A commitment to building a diverse intellectual community, in line with OSU’s Shared Values How To Apply To be considered, please submit your application electronically via Workday.
