Description Service Area: Education Reports to: Principal Supervises: N/A FLSA Classification: Exempt OPPortunity Academy, the academic arm of OPP, is a unique alternative high school in Hartford, CT. At OA, we believe that the most important service we can offer to young people is to provide them with authentic opportunities to develop, increase, and exercise their own agency. This means that students MUST be in the driver's seat when it comes to their own education. They MUST have the freedom to make critical choices, express their authentic voices, and advocate for themselves without fear of judgment. They MUST become the producers of knowledge. The role of this position is to deliver a rigorous blended learning academic environment for our youth, setting high expectations, being data-driven, and effectively blending individualized online curriculum with student-centered project-based learning. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Plan and deliver engaging, rigorous lessons tailored to students’ needs and the provided curriculum. Maintain a positive, safe, and organized learning environment. Implement school-wide student management policies within the classroom. Make parental contact by phone and/or conduct home visits when necessary. Partner with YDS for the individualized coordination of school-wide programs and services for each student (e.g., tutoring, mentoring, parental engagement, workforce development, post-secondary educational plans). Demonstrate knowledge and support of the school’s mission, values, standards, policies, procedures, confidentiality standards, and ethical code. Ensure compliance with all state and federal laws, local policies, administrative guidelines, and the CT Educators’ Code of Ethics. Serve as an appropriate role model for colleagues, students, staff, and parents. Conduct oneself professionally during all school meetings. Perform tasks as assigned or requested. Requirements Connecticut certification (034) or in the process of obtaining it. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year institution. Two years of teaching experience preferred, with a proven record of high student achievement.
