Job Description The Department of Physics at Binghamton invites applications for a tenure-track position as Simons Empire Faculty Fellow to begin in Fall 2026 at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek to hire an outstanding candidate in the area of experimental condensed matter physics, with an emphasis on quantum transport, spectroscopy, and/or nanofabrication of quantum materials.

Successful candidates are expected to have an outstanding research record, establish an independent research program, and make effective contributions to the Physics undergraduate and graduate teaching programs.

This position is part of a prestigious four-faculty Simons Empire Faculty Fellowship cluster hire at Binghamton University, comprising two experimental physics positions and two mathematics positions. The cluster is designed to foster collaborative research at the intersection of quantum science and mathematical foundations of artificial intelligence, directly advancing the Simons Foundation's mission to push the frontiers of mathematics and basic sciences through interdisciplinary collaboration. While the primary expectation is that fellows will develop strong, independent research programs within their disciplines, the cluster also offers unique opportunities for interdisciplinary engagement. Fellows will receive dedicated startup support from the Simons Foundation.

The start date for the position is August 17, 2026.

Responsibilities Responsibilities include:

Develop and maintain an independent research program in experimental condensed matter physics with emphasis on quantum transport, spectroscopy, and/or nanofabrication of quantum materials.

Establish an impactful research program with competitive funding.

Teach and contribute to the Physics undergraduate and graduate programs.

Collaborate within the Simons Empire Faculty Fellowship cluster and with other departments as appropriate.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Physics, or a closely related field by August 17, 2026.

Preferred Qualifications:

Postdoctoral experience in Physics, or a closely related field.
