The Head Of The Research And Instruction Services Department Responsibilities
Work a minimum of 37.5 hours per week in the Huntington Campus Library as a 12-month librarian-track non-tenured faculty member. Participate in the daily coverage of the Huntington Campus Library’s reference/circulation desk exhibiting expert customer service skills with the ability to provide in person and online reference services. Effectively communicate the RIS department’s value as a resource through tours, scheduled classes, exhibits, and other appropriate venues. Represent the RIS department and the University in the community through personal contact, appearances before groups and association with professional organizations. Actively engage in departmental and library initiatives, work groups, teams, and committees such as University Library research LibGuides, and Marshall Digital Scholar (MDS). Participate in the library liaison program and shared library instruction program. Providing outreach, instruction, and services to faculty and students and serve as a liaison to one or more academic areas. Participate in regional, state, and/or national professional organizations and in professional development activities designed to increase knowledge in areas of primary responsibility. Participate fully as a member of the University Faculty, including serving on University and Library committees as assigned or elected. Engage in an active life of scholarship appropriate to the instructional and service role of the academic librarian. Promote the department by participating in outreach to faculty/staff/students/community and participate in regional outreach activities. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned, depending upon additional expertise, interests, and the needs of the libraries. Qualifications
Required Qualifications Master’s Degree in Library Science from an institution accredited by the American Library Association Must be able to perform all essential job duties as outlined in the job description. Experience Experience as a librarian is preferred, but not required. Preferred Qualifications Masters in subject area preferred. Strong commitment to public service and user-centered librarianship. Excellent communication, collaboration, and instructional skills. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-based, service-oriented environment. Salary and Benefits
Salary is commensurate with education, experience, and internal equity. Work week is 37.5 hours. Holidays – Employees receive 13 Paid Holidays Annual and Sick Leave – up to 24 days of annual leave and up to 18 days of sick leave per year (varies by employee type). Health Insurance – multiple PEIA plans. Educational/Tuition Benefits – for regular employees and dependents after probationary period.
