Overview
Associate Professor/Chair - Psychology at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (N.C. A&T). The Department Chair is a 12-month, senior leadership role reporting to the Dean of the Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences, serving as the department’s chief administrative and academic leader. Responsibilities
Provide visionary leadership for innovative programs with an educator-researcher emphasis. Lead strategic planning, budget development, management and allocation of resources. Recruit and retain faculty and students; support faculty, staff, and student development. Oversee curricula development and improvement; evaluate faculty performance; conduct program assessments and reviews. Obtain and maintain accreditation; develop external partnerships. Represent the department with other departments and university leaders; develop research infrastructure. Oversee course schedules, faculty evaluations, and supervision of departmental staff. Provide leadership and vision for the department; conduct research in the chair’s area of expertise and publish in refereed venues (journals/conferences). Teach undergraduate and graduate courses (reduced teaching load) as appropriate; serve on departmental, college, and university committees. Qualifications / Minimum Requirements
Doctoral degree in Psychology. Experience that supports appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. Minimum of three years in an administrative or management position in an academic institution with a comparable profile. Minimum of three years of collegiate teaching emphasizing teaching, scholarly productivity, and engagement within the discipline. Strong record of extramural funding. Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with diverse students, faculty, staff, and external constituencies; familiarity with student recruitment and retention. N.C. A&T is a public, land-grant, doctoral research institution and the largest historically Black university in the country. The College of Health and Human Sciences includes six departments and the School of Nursing, offering multiple undergraduate and graduate programs, and hosting the Center of Excellence in Integrative Health Disparities and Equity Research (CIHDER). The Department of Psychology has approximately 840 undergraduate majors, 30 MS in Health Psychology students, and is developing a new PhD program in Applied Psychology for Fall 2025. Position Details
