Overview
The Department of Psychology within the John R. and Kathy R. Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (N.C. A&T) invites applications and nominations for the position of Department Chair. The Department Chair position is a 12-month position that reports to the Dean of the Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences and serves as the department's chief administrative and academic leader. The Department Chair will provide visionary leadership of innovative programs with an educator-researcher emphasis. Responsibilities include strategic planning; budget development, management, and allocation; recruitment and retention of faculty and students; faculty, staff, and student development; curriculum management and improvement; evaluating faculty performance; program assessments and reviews; obtaining and maintaining accreditation; developing external partnerships; representing the department in collaboration with other departments and university leaders. The Department Chair will implement strategies to develop research infrastructure, oversee course schedules, faculty evaluations, and supervision of departmental staff, and provide leadership and vision for the department. They are also expected to conduct research in their area of expertise and publish in refereed journals and/or conference proceedings, teach undergraduate and graduate courses (reduced teaching load), and serve on departmental, college, and university committees. The successful candidate must possess: (a) a doctoral degree in Psychology, (b) experience that supports appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, a minimum of three years in an administrative/management position at an academic institution with a comparable profile, (d) a minimum of three years of collegiate teaching emphasizing teaching, scholarly productivity, and engagement within their discipline, and (e) a strong record of extramural funding.
