Overview Warren Wilson College invites applicants for a full-time, continuing faculty position in Animal Nutrition. This is an Assistant Professor position in our extended contract system beginning in August of 2026.

Qualifications and Focus The ideal candidate will be a broadly trained animal scientist with specific expertise in animal nutrition and chemistry, who is strongly committed to teaching and student-engaged research in an undergraduate liberal arts environment. Strong candidates will have experience using fundamental chemistry concepts in a focus on animal nutrition, and in investigating livestock in sustainable or regenerative agriculture settings.

Department and Collaboration The successful candidate will join the Department of Biology and Chemistry. This department is an interdisciplinary and highly collaborative learning community. We graduate leaders who think creatively and critically, and who are enthusiastic about scientific practices. The department offers majors in Biochemistry, Biology, and Conservation Biology, and is developing a program in Animal Science. The successful candidate will also work in close collaboration with the Center for Working Lands team, particularly through the College Farm's livestock operation.

Responsibilities

Teach 24 credit hours per year; typically, 4 credits are re-assigned to mentor undergraduate research projects. Courses taught regularly will include Animal Nutrition, Livestock Management Techniques, animal-related courses in the successful candidate's specialty, and courses in the General Chemistry sequence; additional teaching opportunities will be available.

Provide academic and career advising to undergraduate students.

Mentor student research projects within the Natural Science Undergraduate Research Sequence.

Participate in and contribute to the business of the Biology and Chemistry Department.

Contribute to the college's General Education Program, as appropriate.

Engage in ongoing professional development and scholarly activities.

Engage in service to the college.

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D in Animal Science or a related field. ABD will be considered.

One year of successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level.

Demonstrated experience with advancing a learning environment that is conducive to all students. For instance, experience incorporating inclusive teaching modalities, selection of course content, subject matter experts and working with diverse student populations.

Experience mentoring and integrating undergraduate students in research.

Experience working with livestock in teaching and research settings.

Demonstrated track record of scholarship in the area of animal science or chemistry education, including peer-reviewed publications.

Preferred Qualifications

Two or more years of teaching experience at the undergraduate level.

Experience in animal science in the context of working lands and sustainable or regenerative agriculture.

Experience working with undergraduate students in academic advising.

Experience teaching foundational chemistry courses.

Evidence of experiential and applied learning pedagogy.
