The School of Theatre, Dance, and Film at Texas State University seeks an Assistant Professor of Acting (Tenure Track or Professor of Practice), starting fall 2026. The new hire will join an internationally recognized department with a dynamic faculty of the Acting for Stage and Screen program which celebrates a nationally recruited student population. We are dedicated to a collaborative and innovative approach to teaching that prioritizes contemporary professional standards in all casting, recruitment, classroom, and production environments. Responsibilities
Teaching undergraduate courses in acting, improvisation, clown, voice and speech, movement, classical acting, and other related disciplines. Advising, coaching, and mentoring BFA Acting students and alumni on curricular, co-curricular, and career related topics. Serve as an active member of the Acting Area including program and curriculum development, organizing and supporting co-curricular initiatives such as recurring workshops and masterclasses, securing and engaging with professional guest artists, and sharing in administrative needs related to the Acting Area. Recruit BFA Acting students including screening of audition videos, participation in auditions at regional and national events, and on campus auditions. Active attendance of department productions and co-curricular work and engagement with involved students. Continued creative and/or research output as required by rank. Contributing to the continued development and evolution of the program and the department usually in the form of service and committee work. Required Qualifications
Required qualifications for Assistant Professor Rank (Tenure Line): MFA or equivalent international terminal degree in acting or related field. University teaching experience. A record of professional acting experience in theatre, film, and/or television with a commitment to an ongoing professional career. Strong national industry network connections with professionals in casting, directing, management and representation, and/or acting. Required qualifications for Assistant Professor of Practice Rank: Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in acting or related field. University teaching experience. A record of professional acting experience in theatre, film, and/or television with a commitment to an ongoing professional career. Strong national industry network connections with professionals in casting, directing, management and representation, and/or acting. Preferred Qualifications
3 years teaching experience at full-time or equivalent course load. Experience teaching undergraduate courses in acting, improvisation, clown, voice and speech, movement, classical acting, or other related disciplines. Experience in directing, playwriting, or devised works. Strong organizational and administrative skills. Current membership in a professional union such as AEA and/or SAG-AFTRA or equivalent international. Demonstrated record of collaborative abilities and collegiality. Application Procedures
