Apex is seeking a EHS Specialist to be based in Bingen, WA.
Role Overview This role is focused on employee accident prevention. The incumbent will execute occupational safety projects from start to finish with a blend of workplace/shop floor presence and desktop entry duties.
A well-rounded knowledge of general EHS knowledge is expected. This is an entry-level position, so it is not required to be a subject matter expert. A strong willingness to learn is important. The incumbent should be an energetic self-starter who can work independently and produce results within budget and timeframe.
Your Responsibilities as an Apex Occupational Safety Professional
Providing comprehensive occupational safety consulting services to clients, including:
Conducting shop floor observations focused on identifying, assessing and risk-ranking employee exposures to injury
Devising solution options aimed at mitigating employee injury exposures
Providing clients with hands-on assistance with implementation of chosen injury prevention solutions and initiatives
Monitoring the effectiveness of implemented solutions
Tracking and analyzing clients' employee injury experience to identify trends and potential high-leverage accident prevention activities
Collaborating with Apex project managers to coordinate and execute EHS projects within established procedures and standards
Designing, implementing, and executing service plans in collaboration with the external customer; monitoring and reporting progress; working with internal and external stakeholders to achieve project velocity
Acting as an advisor to the customer on EHS issues
Working closely with senior Apex personnel at the same location
Providing input to project managers on project status
Benchmarking results using customer-assigned benchmarking software
Perform Hazard analyses and related safety activities
What we are looking for
Bachelor's degree preferred in science, engineering, or a related field
Minimum 1+ years of experience in the EHS field
Desirable but not required: ASP or CSP, CHMM, CEM, or forklift safety training experience
Experience in manufacturing/assembly or heavy industry settings is a plus
Experience in aerospace/defense or automotive industries is a plus
Strong knowledge of occupational safety technical subject matter and its real-life application (e.g., shop floor hazard identification, JSA/JHA, injury data analysis, machine guarding, fall prevention, lockout/tagout, confined space, PPE, EPA regulations, contractor safety, OSHA regulations, hazardous waste submittals, IH basics)
Strong interpersonal communication skills
Creativity and self-starter initiative; ability to manage routine, ongoing work and negotiate with multiple customer stakeholders
Willingness to learn new skills
Ensures compliance with all EHS regulations and keeps abreast of changes
Strong technical writing, multi-tasking, safety awareness, and safe work practice records
Experience with data management and report preparation
Valid driver's license
Proficiency with Microsoft Office
US Citizenship is required
