The Department of Human Resources Development - State Recruiting Office will refer all inquiries regarding this recruitment to the DOT Personnel Office. Independently works on the repair and maintenance of highway structures such as bridges and overpasses as part of a bridge maintenance crew. Participates in the general maintenance, repair, and upkeep of structural steel, composite concrete and steel, reinforced concrete, and timber highway bridges and similar structures; performs work at heights in excess of 70 feet; and may perform work under water. Required Qualifications

Legal Authorization to Work:

The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State to be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States. Experience and Training:

Four (4) years of experience in construction and maintenance work, of which two (2) years shall have been of a semi-skilled nature; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Knowledge:

Common practices, methods, materials and tools used in construction and maintenance work; hazards and safety precautions necessary in working at heights in excess of 70 feet; hazards and safety precautions necessary for those positions that perform work under water. Ability:

Use common tools and techniques of the trades such as painting, rigging, steel work and carpentry; give and receive oral and written instructions; work safely at heights; perform lifting, carrying and moving of heavy objects typical of the work of the class; and, for positions that perform work underwater, dive and swim. Physical and Medical Requirements:

Applicants must be able to perform the essential functions of the position effectively and safely, with or without reasonable accommodation. Commercial Driver's License Requirement:

Applicants must possess a valid State of Hawaii Commercial Drivers' License Class B, Endorsement N with no restrictions relating to vehicles equipped with manual transmission (Restriction code E) and/or vehicles equipped with air brakes (Restriction code L), at the time of application. Please attach a valid, legible copy of your Commercial Driver's License to your application (front and back). If you do not attach a copy of your license, you will be deemed ineligible. A valid out-of-state CDL may also be accepted. If selected, you must transfer your out-of-state CDL to a Hawaii-issued CDL prior to employment and within 30 days of arriving in Hawaii. Your Hawaii-issued CDL will be verified by the hiring agency before you can start work. For information on obtaining a Hawaii CDL, contact the Kauai County - Division of Motor Vehicles. Pre-Employment Testing:

The Federal Department of Transportation regulations require pre-employment testing for controlled substances. If selected, you will be notified of when and where to report for testing. Lifting Requirement:
