Position Summary The Research Laboratory Animal Veterinarian Technician will support HIV prevention studies by performing animal-related procedures to support DHP LB laboratory research on HIV treatment and prevention using nonhuman primate models.

Responsibilities

Perform animal services as specified in SOPs established by the CDC.

Administer anesthesia and antiretroviral drugs on nonhuman primates on weekends and holidays up to 4 hours a day.

Perform preparatory tasks related to drug administration.

Handle post-procedure cleaning, sterilization, and maintenance of instruments and equipment.

Properly process, handle, transport, store, and record procedures and observations.

Maintain supplies and reagents needed for procedures.

Enter data into relevant databases.

Attend all required onsite contract and safety trainings.

Submit weekly reports.

Minimum Requirements

3+ years veterinary technician experience, with at least 1 year in a laboratory animal setting preferred.

Ability to obtain/maintain vaccinations, physicals, and medical requirements.

Preferred: AALAS Certified Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) and/or licensed Veterinary Technician (RVT).

Preferred: Experience with nonhuman primates.
