Overview
Southeastern Louisiana University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Integrative Biology in the Department of Biological Sciences to begin in August, 2026. Candidates must have a PhD in a relevant area of the biological sciences, documented expertise and experience in integrative biology, and a record of scholarly accomplishments. Postdoctoral experience is preferred. We are particularly interested in applicants with expertise in Organismal Biology, Ecology, Evolution, Genetics, or Animal Development. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching in their area of expertise and, depending upon the needs of the Department, may be expected to seek external funding to support a long-term research program that provides opportunities for undergraduate and MS students. Preference will be given to candidates whose expertise complements existing research interests. Southeastern Louisiana University is primarily a teaching institution whose focus is the education of undergraduate and master’s-level graduate students. The Department of Biological Sciences has more than 550 undergraduate majors in six concentrations and approximately 25 graduate students in the MS degree program. The Department has excellent research and teaching laboratories as well as other research facilities including a roof-top greenhouse, the Southeastern Vertebrate Museum, access to the LONI high performance computer cluster, a vivarium, and the Turtle Cove Environmental Research Station. The University is a member of the Louisiana Biomedical Research Network (LBRN) and is positioned in a biologically diverse region with ample opportunities for research in terrestrial, freshwater, or estuarine habitats. The Department leads the Lake Maurepas Biomonitoring Project, and the successful candidate may find opportunities for building a research program and supporting students and postdocs in this and similar new projects. Required : Doctorate in Biological Sciences or related field by hire date. Preferred : Postdoctoral training. Record of scholarly accomplishments and expertise in integrative biology; research areas in Organismal Biology, Ecology, Evolution, Genetics, or Animal Development are of particular interest.
