Overview
Hayes & Associates, LLC is seeking a Staff Auditor to join our growing firm. The position is based in Omaha, Nebraska with flexibility for a partial remote work arrangement up to three days a week. The role serves a diverse client base with emphasis in nonprofit, state & local government, and single audit areas, and involves providing a variety of accounting and auditing functions in support of client objectives within the audit service areas. Responsibilities
Perform audit fieldwork including record verification, developing and completing audit program steps, and preparing financial statements. Examine financial records, prepare reports and financial statements, results of operations, compliance reports, and internal control reports. Coordinate or participate in pre-audit planning for audit engagements, review client accounting and operating procedures, and assess systems of internal control. Presents a professional image of the firm when interacting with clients. Perform audit, agreed-upon procedure, review, compilation, and preparation engagements. Conduct the fieldwork portion of audits including substantive and analytical procedures over areas such as cash, investments, receivables, capital assets, payroll, payables, debt, revenue, and expenses. Review the adequacy of internal controls throughout an audit, creating workpapers that support findings and audit steps, and developing solid recommendations and alternative solutions to issues identified during the audit. Assist in coordinating communications between the audit team and clients regarding requested documentation. Assist in planning, risk assessment, and preparation of financial statements. Qualifications
Be able to research technical accounting and auditing issues and collaborate with the team to identify audit issues and provide timely solutions and consultation for clients. Demonstrate excellence in communication, data gathering, analysis, reporting, and process improvement. Meet assigned deadlines and budgets and provide advance warning of problems. Be self-motivated and able to work independently. Possess excellent client relationship and time management skills. Be organized with the ability to execute on multiple, concurrent client engagements. Have familiarity with accounting and auditing software including QuickBooks, CCH ProSystem fx Engagement, and CCH Knowledge Coach (a plus). A CPA certificate or demonstrated ability to sit for the exam is a plus but not required. A degree in accounting is required; previous public audit experience or experience in nonprofit or governmental accounting/auditing is highly desirable. Notes
