Overview The primary purpose of this position is to underwrite new business and renewals in a profitable manner and according to authority level and established guidelines, and to participate in special projects having an impact on the business. Assigned larger and more important agents/brokers. Utilize underwriting tools to determine accurate classifications, rates, and premium charges. Understand state laws, including cancellation and non-renewal, within the assigned territory to properly transact business within each state. Knowledgeable in coverage forms and policy language; appropriate utilization of forms and exclusions. Assist with resolving premium audit disputes within assigned agents/brokers. Able to provide coaching to others.
Responsibilities
Underwrite new business and renewals in a profitable manner according to authority level and established guidelines; participate in special projects impacting the business.
Underwrite for assigned larger and more important agents/brokers.
Utilize underwriting tools to determine accurate classifications, rates, and premium charges.
Understand state laws, including cancellation and non-renewal, within the assigned territory to properly transact business in each state.
Knowledgeable in coverage forms and policy language; appropriate utilization of forms and exclusions.
Assist with resolving premium audit disputes within assigned agents/brokers; provide coaching to others.
The ideal candidate should have strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to cultivate new, productive relationships with producers within the Northeast region of the US.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree preferred
5+ years' experience underwriting management liability coverages
Industry designations such as RPLU are a plus
Experience in wholesale distribution channel
Strong analytical skills including ability to analyze and understand policy language
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong organizational skills with ability to manage competing priorities and timelines
Demonstrated sales and marketing skills including the ability to utilize data to organize efforts
Ability to coordinate efforts with support staff to maximize overall productivity
Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel & Teams
Up to 25% travel

Pay Information The base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors. The base salary range for the Sr. Underwriter position is $92k - $127k/year with a 25% bonus potential.
