Overview : MLA Interim is seeking an Insurance Counsel to provide critical legal support to our client’s Accident & Health team. Candidates should have at least ten years of experience working with Accident & Health insurance and reinsurance products, with demonstrated expertise in drafting and negotiating a wide variety of insurance contracts. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional communication skills and robust business insight, thriving in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Company:

10+ years of experience as an Insurance Counsel on an Accident & Health team Location:

Hybrid, Chicago Loop Responsibilities Include: Providing legal advice regarding all aspects of various Accident & Health insurance and reinsurance products, including policy and contract construction, program structuring, collateral requirements, coverage considerations, laws and regulations Analyzing and identifying various sources of risk that can arise in a commercial insurance program, particularly with respect to accident & health business Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a broad array of contracts and representing the company’s interests Participating as an Accident & Health business partner involved in strategic planning, client engagement and cross-functional collaboration with legal and business teams Providing exemplary and timely advice to business professionals at all levels, including senior executives Providing advice concerning litigation and dispute matters Ensuring that practices, policies, and business activities are within the bounds of the company’s best practices Qualifications Include: Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school; admission to Illinois bar and in good standing. 10+ years of experience in a top tier law firm managing Health Insurance matters; in-house experience preferred but not required Strong experience with accident & health insurance and reinsurance products, including policies, contract construction, program structuring, collateral requirements, coverage considerations, laws and regulations and specifically Strong experience with Employer Stop Loss products, policy, laws, and regulations Strong experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating insurance-related contracts, including producer agreements, profit sharing agreements, reinsurance agreements, legal memoranda, and position letters Experience analyzing and identifying various sources of risk, such as litigation and dispute matters, that can arise in a commercial insurance program Experience in strategic planning, client engagement and cross-functional collaboration Ability to perform detailed analysis of complex data from multiple sources Ability to identify and resolve issues before they transpire Ability to negotiate the best position for the company, including in contentious situations, managing conflicting priorities of various parties Excellent verbal and written communication skills on multiple platforms; ability to express ideas clearly Strong knowledge of Microsoft business software and ability to conduct internet research Strong business acumen, demonstrate initiative and able to work with minimal supervision as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills Pay Rate: $115/hour Information regarding benefits can be found on MLA’s Website on the Consultant Resources Page:
