Overview This is a full-time on-site role for a Controller located in Houston, TX.
Responsibilities
Oversee all accounting operations, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, and Payroll.
Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
Maintain a comprehensive knowledge base of GAAP with a basic understanding of IFRS.
Manage accounting records and oversee the production of all financial reports.
Direct treasury, budgeting, audit, tax, accounting, purchasing, real estate, long-range forecasting, and insurance activities.
Supervise the Accounting Manager to ensure proper procedures, internal controls, and computer application systems are in place to maintain accurate records.
Serve as custodian of company funds, securities, and assets.
Appraise the organization's financial position and issue periodic reports on stability, liquidity, and growth.
Direct and coordinate the establishment of budget programs.
Oversee tax reporting programs and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.
Analyze, consolidate, and direct cost accounting procedures, including statistical and routine reports.
Oversee and direct the preparation and issuance of the corporation's annual report.
Conduct financial and economic studies to evaluate business conditions and their impact on company policies and operations.
Analyze operational issues across departments, assess their financial impact, and provide recommendations.
Evaluate and recommend business partnering and investment opportunities.
Establish and maintain strong relationships with stockholders, financial institutions, and the investment community.
Monitor inventory, cost accounting, and job/project costing relevant to steel industry operations.
Oversee cash flow management and recommend strategies for improved financial efficiency.
Function as a backup for all accounting positions and perform company-specific software accounting activities when necessary.
Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff, promoting a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA, CMA or CFA certification preferred).
Must have proven experience in the manufacturing or steel industry.
Strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger accounting.
Familiarity with financial regulations and compliance.
Ability to analyze financial data and provide actionable, strategic insights.
Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems.
Excellent organizational, leadership, and team management skills.
Minimum of 7+ years progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 3 years in a Controller or senior leadership role.
