As a
Private Banking Team Lead , you will cultivate new and manage existing high-net-worth (HNW) and ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) client relationships, providing tailored banking and lending solutions. You will oversee a portfolio of relationships while leading a team of Private Bankers, ensuring strong sales execution, portfolio management, and adherence to risk standards. In this role, you will collaborate closely with internal partners across CIBC Private Wealth Management and CIBC Commercial Banking to expand relationships and deliver a full range of financial services. Your leadership will drive profitable growth, deepen client relationships, and enhance the team’s performance in meeting lending and deposit needs. How You’ll Succeed
Lead and manage private banking relationships: Oversee complex lending and deposit relationships for HNW and UHNW clients while guiding your team in portfolio management and business development. Drive team success: Provide strategic leadership, mentorship, and day-to-day management of Private Bankers, ensuring a strong sales and risk management culture. Expand client relationships: Serve as a trusted advisor, actively identifying opportunities to offer customized lending, deposit, and wealth management solutions. Ensure portfolio health and risk management: Oversee portfolio reviews, past-due remediation, risk rating accuracy, and timely renewals for both your portfolio and your team’s. Facilitate credit and underwriting processes: Work closely with Underwriting, Group Portfolio Managers, and Credit Risk Management to structure deals that meet client needs while mitigating risk. Leverage technology for client engagement: Ensure Salesforce activity is up to date, tracking client interactions, opportunities, and referrals across the team. Actively participate in the market: Represent CIBC Private Wealth Management by engaging in local industry events and building new client relationships. Maintain compliance and governance: Hold your team accountable to policies and procedures while fostering a diverse and inclusive environment that reflects the CIBC brand. Who You Are
Experienced in private banking: 7–10 years of experience managing lending and deposit relationships for HNW and UHNW clients. Educational background: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Real Estate, or Economics (preferred). Credit and investment expertise: Deep credit knowledge, experience with investment portfolios, and an understanding of trust solutions. Relationship-driven: Excels at building and maintaining relationships with HNW and UHNW individuals, business owners, and corporate executives. Risk-focused and analytical: Able to assess credit risk, structure lending solutions, and complete the necessary analysis and documentation for credit actions. Technology proficient: Proficient in Microsoft Office, financial analysis and modeling, with experience using Salesforce for client management. Team-oriented leader: Experience mentoring and managing a team in a collaborative environment, coordinating with appropriate partners and financial solutions. Industry-savvy: Experience advising business owners and corporate executives in Middle Market, Large Corporate, and/or Private Wealth is highly desired. Formally trained in credit: Formal credit training or equivalent experience to support complex credit structuring. What Success Looks Like
