Staff Attorney, Immigrant Family Legal Clinic
UCLA School of Law is hiring a Staff Attorney for the Immigrant Family Legal Clinic (ImmFam) to begin in Fall of 2025. The position is intended for a bilingual attorney, and is open to recent law graduates. The position is a two-year contract, with the possibility of extension. ImmFam is a unique partnership between the UCLA School of Law and the Los Angeles Unified School District. Located on the campus of the Robert F. Kennedy Community Schools (RFK) in Koreatown/Pico Union, the Clinic serves immigrant students at the six public schools on the RFK campus, as well as their family members. ImmFam provides individual representation on immigration matters, particularly removal defense and humanitarian visas. It also offers legal consultations involving a wider range of legal topics, including workers' rights, housing, public benefits, and criminal justice. The Staff Attorney is responsible for providing direct representation to RFK students, legal consultations to the RFK community, serving as a resource for administrators, teachers, and parents, and leading the clinic's outreach and community education work. They will also work closely with the Clinic Director and Senior Staff Attorney on developing and managing the docket and advocacy projects the clinic undertakes. Salary & Compensation
UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to read, write, and speak fluently in Spanish. Demonstrated experience with and substantive knowledge of immigration law. Demonstrated experience and interest in working with low-wage workers, immigrants, refugees, and/or other vulnerable populations. Familiarity with workers' rights, housing, public benefits, and/or crim-imm. Demonstrated skill in working independently, organizing work flow, establishing productive work environment, and following through on assignments with minimal direct supervision. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to individuals and groups from a variety of social contexts, including members of immigrant communities. Excellent organizational skills and ability to work effectively under conditions of heavy workload, frequent distractions, and deadlines. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to exchange ideas, information, and opinions with others to arrive jointly at decisions, conclusions, or solutions. Ability to work in a busy, dynamic, and unconventional office setting shared by numerous people. Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations
Juris Doctor (JD) Degree or other law degree from a State Bar-accredited or American bar Association-approved law school or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be a member in good standing of the State Bar of California and maintain that standing through continuing legal education credits required by the State Bar. Admitted to practice law in California. Special Conditions for Employment
Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation. Live Scan Background Check: A Live Scan background check must be completed prior to the start of employment. Age Requirement: Candidate(s) must be 18 years or older to be eligible to be hired. CANRA: The position is designated as a mandatory reporter under CANRA. The employee must sign the 'Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse'. Ability to conduct hybrid work on an as-needed basis in coordination with other Clinic staff based on office space availability. Ability to commute to primary office at RFK Community School, as well as to UCLA Law and other LAUSD schools as-needed basis for program meetings and events.
