Overview

The Law Enforcement Defense Division’s (LEDD) docket includes highly complex and high-profile civil litigation with emphasis on constitutional law, civil rights, employment litigation, tort litigation, religious liberties, and class actions. LEDD defends the state’s law enforcement agencies and their officials in civil proceedings in federal and state court. The division handles motion and discovery practice, frequent courtroom appearances, jury trials, and matters at the Fifth Circuit and state court of appeals. LEDD is seeking a licensed attorney with litigation experience in tort or employment law who demonstrates excellent legal research, writing, and advocacy skills. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is a dynamic state agency with over 4,000 employees. Represents state law enforcement agencies, officials, and employees in defense of lawsuits involving civil rights, employment law, torts, constitutional law, religious liberties, and class actions in state and federal court. Manages all aspects of litigation, including legal research, memoranda, witness preparation, client communications, case briefings, written discovery, depositions, pre-trial motions, dispositive motions, hearings, mediations, and trials (lead or co-counsel) in Texas and federal court; post-trial debriefings. Provide exceptional client service and collaborate effectively with attorneys and staff in a dynamic office environment. Advise and assist client state agencies and law enforcement entities on legal matters. Maintain knowledge of relevant laws and practices; manage a docket of complex cases; ensure confidentiality of sensitive information. Adhere to agency policies and ethics requirements; work regular hours and, as needed, beyond 40 hours per week in compliance with FLSA. Travel as required (up to 25%), in-person work at the assigned OAG location, and ability to relocate or work with coworkers on-site as needed. Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school. Experience: at least three years of full-time civil litigation experience; licensed attorney in Texas; active membership in good standing with the State Bar of Texas; eligible to practice in Texas on or before the agreed start date. Experience in civil litigation in both federal and state courts; knowledge of relevant law and legal principles. Strong organizational and administrative skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. Excellent oral and written communication skills (writing sample may be required for selected interviews). Ability to conduct legal research and exercise sound judgment; ability to receive and respond to constructive feedback; ability to work cooperatively in a professional office environment; and ability to provide excellent client service. Ability to travel up to 25% and to work in person at the designated OAG workspace. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Four or more years of licensed civil litigation experience. Courtroom experience in state and/or federal court, including hearings and jury trials. Experience trying at least two jury trials to verdict in state or federal court. Seniority level
