Essential Position Functions
Represents state law enforcement agencies, officials, and employees in defense of lawsuits involving civil rights, employment law, torts, constitutional law, religious liberties, and class actions in state and federal courts. Manages all aspects of litigation: legal research and memoranda, witness preparation, client communications, case briefings, written discovery, depositions, pre-trial motions, dispositive motions (e.g., motions for summary judgment), hearings, mediations, trials (lead or co-counsel) throughout Texas, and post-trial debriefings. Provides excellent client service and collaborates effectively with other attorneys and staff. Prepares and tries cases in state and federal courts defending state agencies and employees; provides legal advice to client agencies and law enforcement entities. Performs related duties as assigned and maintains knowledge necessary to perform essential functions. Attends work regularly and ensures the security and confidentiality of sensitive information. Complies with agency policies and ethics requirements; manages a docket of moderately complex cases. Ability to travel as needed and work in person at the assigned OAG work location. Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school. Experience: One year of full-time civil litigation experience as a licensed attorney. Licensed to practice law in Texas; in good standing with the State Bar of Texas. Knowledge of relevant law and legal principles; strong organizational and detail-oriented skills. Strong oral and written communication, legal research, and judgment. Ability to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work cooperatively in a professional office environment. Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA; ability to perform in-person work at the designated location; ability to travel up to 25% including overnight travel would be required. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Courtroom experience in state and/or federal court (motions, trial). Two years of civil litigation experience as a licensed attorney.
