Inside Higher Ed . Location: Law School, Hartford, CT (University of Connecticut School of Law). This is a full-time, permanent position. Working with the Center for Career Development, the Assistant Director will counsel and advise law students and alumni in career development and employment strategies, and create, manage, and evaluate career development programs and activities. Duties And Responsibilities
Counsels and advises students and alumni on career exploration, development, and employment opportunities. Develops, designs, prepares, and organizes career development resources and materials, including career development guides and checklists; writes informational materials for the law school community. Collaborates with the Director and staff to promote and implement career development programs; leads programs, prepares budgets, oversees program management, and establishes implementation procedures. Designs, administers, and conducts career-related workshops (interviewing, resume development, job search skills). Collaborates with other departments to identify students in distress and provide appropriate resources. Consults with academic departments, faculty, staff, student organizations, and off-campus employers regarding career development programs, salary statistics, geographic growth areas, and job market trends. Assists in planning employer/student recruiting strategies, evaluates effectiveness, and recommends changes. Recruit students to participate in Career Development programs through outreach to academic departments and events. Performs related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications
J.D. degree or Master’s degree in a relevant field. One to two years of professional legal experience. Proven knowledge of the legal hiring community. Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills. Public speaking, writing, and group facilitation abilities. Ability to develop positive, collaborative relationships with students, alumni, faculty, administrators, and legal practitioners. Experience with technologies related to career development. Preferred Qualifications
J.D. degree. 3+ years of professional experience or internship in career planning, academic advising, higher education, or related fields. Admitted to or eligible to be admitted to the Bar of a U.S. jurisdiction. Experience in a Law School Career Development office. Experience with electronic media and marketing initiatives; proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, career service databases, and online resources. Appointment Terms
