Katten offers a hybrid work model (KattenFlex), allowing regular on-site and remote work. The Real Estate Paralegal position can be located in Chicago, Charlotte, Los Angeles or New York.
Responsibilities
Provide paralegal support and assistance to attorneys in the coordination, management and supervision of all aspects of real estate transactions under the general direction of the Paralegal Manager and supervising attorney(s).
Review and prepare UCC filings; review/analysis of title commitments, underlying recorded title documents and surveys; review/abstract leases and other real estate encumbrance documents.
Coordinate and assist with documentation for closing and post-closing requirements.
Perform UCC searches; prepare and review UCCs; prepare financing statements, releases and transfer documents.
Review/analyze real estate surveys and title commitments, policies and underlying title documents; perform lease abstracting.
Maintain up-to-date time reports to ensure accurate client billing.
Supervisory Responsibilities
On a case-by-case basis, may supervise work performed by Project Assistant and/or Paralegal I and II staff. Responsibilities include interviewing, training, and providing input into the performance appraisal process, in accordance with Firm policies and applicable laws.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Bachelor’s degree and seven or more years of progressive work experience in the real estate transactional area, preferably in a law firm; paralegal certificate from an ABA-accredited program is a plus.
Legal research knowledge; ability to use a law library; experience with real estate-related databases, due diligence, Excel, Outlook, Word; knowledge of title and survey review/analysis, UCC searches and preparation, and lease abstracting.
Excellent organizational skills, data analysis, and the ability to produce concise reports and written/oral communications; ability to interact professionally with attorneys, clients, staff, and outside contacts.
Initiative, analytical and critical-thinking abilities; attention to detail, precision, and logical reasoning for real estate transactional data and legal research.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment; strong troubleshooting and follow-through skills.
Proficiency in reading, writing, grammar, spelling, proofreading, and formatting; ability to prepare real estate transactional documents and forms and perform file maintenance.
Mathematical aptitude for computations and data verification; ability to operate standard office equipment.
Flexibility to work beyond standard hours as needed and travel to other Firm locations when required.
