Vanderbilt University invites applications for two open rank tenure-track faculty positions in the area of Artificial Intelligence and Education in Organizations with joint appointments in the College of Connected Computing and in the Peabody College of Education and Human Development.
The faculty member will be a core participant in LIVE, Vanderbilt's interdisciplinary Learning Innovation Incubator. We define the area of Artificial Intelligence in Education and Organizations broadly, with research foci that may include work with representational or generative AI, machine learning, and/or learning analytics in the context of K12, higher education, and workplace learning.
Sample Areas of Work:
Development of education-specific AI data, models, analytics, and evaluation benchmarks
Design, testing, deployment, and assessment of AI tools for teaching, learning, and learner support in ecologically valid environments
Creation and/or implementation of models to test, inform, and advance the real-world application of theories of learning, human development, teamwork, decision making, and organizational growth.
Creation and study of AI systems to support organizational decision-making, leadership, and improvement in education
Design and evaluation of AI systems for workforce learning, organizational knowledge-building, and continuous performance improvement
Development of human-AI collaboration, explainable AI, data governance, and accountability frameworks to support equitable and trustworthy use of AI in education
Development of data-driven policy analysis, readiness, assessment, and systemic modeling tools to guide effective and scalable AI adoption in education.
The search committee seeks a heterogenous applicant pool with candidates from a wide variety of disciplinary backgrounds.
Qualifications:
A doctoral degree in Learning Sciences, Computer Science, Educational Psychology, Information Science, Cognitive Science, Educational Technology, Human-Computer Interaction, Data Science, Information Science, Leadership, Policy and Organizations or a related field by the time of appointment
A record of high-quality innovative research on the design, development, implementation and/or use of AI in educational and organizational settings including in schools, higher education, workplace, or informal learning contexts as evidenced through publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
Record of, or potential for, securing external funding to support research and development activities
Excellence in teaching and mentoring students at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Ability to teach classes, mentor students, and develop curriculum in both Peabody College and the College of Connected Computing
Engagement with mechanisms to generate real-world impact with AI in educational and organizational settings such as community or corporate partnerships, open-source release or licensing agreements, or the development of educational technologies.
Capacity and enthusiasm for engaging thoughtfully with researchers and scholars from a wide range of cultural, disciplinary, and academic backgrounds
