Overview
Software Design and Analysis Engineer (Experienced or Lead) — on-site role at Starfire Optical Range, Kirtland AFB, New Mexico, supporting the Air Force Research Laboratory Optics Division in Space Domain Awareness capabilities. The position involves multidisciplinary teamwork to plan, design, integrate, and test complex optical, electronic, quantum systems to achieve research objectives. Position Responsibilities
Develop and maintain code with integration of software components into a fully functional system. Assist with test procedures and documentation of test results to ensure software system requirements are met. Gather information to support software project management. Document deployed processes and tools and collect metrics. Support software research and development projects. Troubleshoot basic software issues. Develop architectures to integrate systems and components into higher level systems and platforms. This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options. Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)
Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, engineering technology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science 5+ years of experience with procedural and object oriented software development (C, C++, Java) 5+ years of experience with writing software for low level device interface control as well as GUI applications 5+ years of experience with developing software for Windows and Linux Willingness to work variable shifts (day, evening, night, weekends) Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)
9+ years of related work experience or equivalent education/experience 1+ years of LabVIEW software coursework/experience Familiarity with PC104 and/or Arduino Experience with Racket/Scheme Experience developing network communication applications Experience developing imaging sensor applications Experience with hardware/software development for electro-mechanical/optical control systems Experience with telescopes and adaptive optics Strong writing and presentation skills for senior decision-makers and technical audiences Ability to work effectively in a small team with broad responsibilities Active U.S. Top Secret Clearance Additional Information
