The Project Fan Engineer is highly skilled in project management, mechanical engineering, and design. The role interfaces with architects, engineers, consultants, customers, and manufacturing to design and redesign air-moving equipment for chemical, petrochemical, power, wastewater treatment, and other heavy process industries. You will be the resident expert ensuring the integrity of engineering design. Responsibilities
Prepare layouts and manufacturing detailed drawings using SolidWorks (weldment cut lists, bill of materials, exploded views) and, on occasion, AutoCAD. Prepare customer general arrangement drawings and ensure timely submittals. Review returned approval drawings, implement changes, resubmit, or release jobs to the fan plant for fabrication. Provide sales drawings to support the sales department during fan quotation stage. Calculate and size welds, bolts, bearings, hubs, blade thickness, shaft sizes, etc. Select drives, couplings, vibration isolators, and seals for special applications. Select/confirm materials of construction (resin, metal, or thermoplastic) to meet process conditions or specs. Ensure the integrity of engineering design and act as the expert. Interface with customers and sales representatives answering questions related to fan selection, design, and performance. Address vendor and customer questions from approval through manufacturing, installation, and maintenance. Troubleshoot field problems and recommend corrections. Retrofit old and new blowers, including competition. Develop equipment training, installation, operating & maintenance manuals. Develop and update designs in engineering standards. Perform other incidental duties and manage customer projects through life cycle, adhering to budgets and schedules. Travel to customer job sites to perform fan startup and training (approximately 15%). Field troubleshooting of fan installations and engage with standards bodies (ASHRAE, AMCA/ANSI, ISO, etc.). Run Modal & FEA analysis and perform computational fluid analysis; contribute to R&D and testing. Produce fan testing reports and other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications
BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field 5+ years of experience in the air movement industry Knowledge of SolidWorks required Detail-oriented with strong organizational, interpersonal, and project management skills; ability to work well in a team Strong communication skills Knowledge of moving and rotating machinery Knowledge of fiberglass reinforced plastics (FRP) as it pertains to fans and blowers Knowledge of fluid flow Familiarity with different chemicals and metal alloys is a plus Ability to calculate stresses in steel members and size bolts, welds, bearings, and various power transmission systems Ability to work with customer specifications and apply different specifications to design and selection of fans Management of project life cycle from PO to shipment; ability to work with foreign subsidiaries Strong verbal and written communication; ability to multitask and work independently Travel & ADA/Work Environment
Incumbents are expected to travel as needed to support assigned business lines and must be able to travel across borders This position is based at the headquarters in Dallas, TX.
