The Medical Laboratory Scientist II performs various laboratory procedures in assigned areas as licensed/certified. Work involves analytical testing of blood and/or human biological specimens and requires a moderate to high degree of theoretical and practical knowledge and expertise in the licensed area(s). Depending on campus and department, pre- and post-analytical work processes are included; on-call hours may be required. Duties include following laboratory policies and procedures, maintaining quality control, and actively participating in outstanding customer service. The role may involve managing aspects of laboratory processes or shifts, workflow management, quality control, training of new employees, problem-solving for customers and coworkers, and maintenance/upgrades of equipment or computer systems. The role may require development and implementation of policies and procedures for new equipment and/or assays, including quality control procedures. A strong commitment to customer service and respectful relationships is essential. The position may also involve writing or reviewing procedures and assisting lab leadership in meeting goals across Team, Service, Clinical, Market, and Finance. The Medical Laboratory Scientist II must perform, evaluate, and record quality control testing on all reportable assays and ensure timely maintenance of medical laboratory equipment. Performs assigned pre-analytical activities related to laboratory testing, including general and analytical equipment maintenance, function checks, inventory control, specimen collection as needed, biological specimen processing, cleaning and disinfection, quality control and calibration, and other pre-analytical activities. Performs all expected tests and analytical procedures for the assigned department or work area, following established procedures and standards; participates in proficiency testing and adheres to federal and state regulations and institutional policies. Performs post-analytical activities, reports results (including highly abnormal results) according to established procedures, and provides technical and support information for all age groups, neonatal through geriatric. Provides orientation and training to new employees and medical technology students as needed, under lab leadership, and may act as a preceptor when assigned. Qualifications
