AVP Actuary Valuation & Modernization - Hybrid - Des Moines, Iowa Wellabe is looking for an AVP Actuary Valuation & Modernization to join our team. This individual will provide leadership and direction to the actuarial function as it relates to establishing proper reserves for Wellabe companies and explaining financial results. The role supports asset adequacy testing, the annual audit, and the quinquennial state exam, and oversees continuous improvement and modernization of actuarial processes while ensuring adherence to departmental, regulatory, and actuarial guidelines for supported product lines. Responsibilities

Oversee the preparation and interpretation of actuarial data and related formulae; provide advice and counsel on complex actuarial situations. Ensure compliance with statutory reserve requirements. Direct monthly/quarterly/annual close for actuarial items, including valuation of reserves for all Wellabe entities and review of NAIC risk-based capital calculations. Support financial reporting and analysis for management and the board. Ensure adherence to MAR controls related to reserves. Maintain documentation of actuarial processes and work products. Drive automation and use of AI to improve actuarial and reporting processes. Serve as Deputy / Successor Appointed Actuary, progressing to signing responsibilities upon meeting American Academy of Actuaries qualification standards. Build and lead a high-performing team (approximately 3–5 actuarial professionals), oversee workflow, provide feedback, foster a positive work environment, develop staff, and hire as needed. Collaborate with Accounting, Internal Audit, Risk, Modeling, and Data Asset Management to ensure accuracy and integrity of Finance work products. Partner with Finance/Legal on reinsurance accounting, treaty implementations, and related disclosures; ensure valuation consistency for ceded/assumed blocks. Provide thought leadership to the broader Finance organization. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with at least a minor in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, or computer science. FSA designation strongly preferred. MAAA designation is a plus. 7+ years of actuarial experience with deep expertise in US statutory and US GAAP (LDTI) valuation; strong command of asset adequacy analysis/CFT, RBC, reserve governance, and controls. Experience with actuarial modeling software. Prior experience as Appointed Actuary (or deputy) is a plus. Experience with GAAP LDTI is a plus. Benefits
