This is work providing social services to assist in rehabilitation of juvenile law offenders in custody or on probation or parole. Incumbents make recommendations for actions involving formulation of rehabilitation plan and treatment of offender, including conditional release and education and employment stipulations. Job Responsibilities
Case Management, Referrals, Recommendations and Assessment: Initiate contact with youth, family, victims, and law enforcement; conduct home and school visits as part of information gathering and family involvement; obtain and review collateral information from involved agencies. Conduct and document FDJJ screening(s) to identify risk, needs, protective factors, and need for further evaluations (e.g., detention screening, intake screening, Suicide Risk Screening Instrument, and other approved instruments). Formulate case management strategies; make service referrals and follow-up actions; provide supervision and treatment recommendations to the State Attorney and other judicial partners. Complete screening instruments and reports used by the department and courts (e.g., DRAI, SRSI, risk/needs instruments, case plans, and related reports). Court Process
Acts as the DJJ representative during court hearings to support the department’s recommendations; prepare and maintain social histories, court reports, referral letters, and related correspondence; testify at hearings when appropriate; prepare affidavits/petitions for Violation of Probation; request hearings when appropriate. Case Management, Interventions & Supervision
Complete risk and needs assessments using department-approved instruments for all youth screened/supervised. Conduct face-to-face contacts in homes, schools, and community settings during non-traditional hours; maintain communications across all stages of youth and family involvement. Assist youth with obtaining mental health, substance abuse evaluations, and arrange for testing and treatment as needed; assist with school enrollment and attendance verification; provide crisis intervention and referrals; help youth establish personal goals and plans. Coordinate with youth, family, and community; determine interventions based on progress and court orders; participate in staffing and transition planning for release from residential programs; maintain and document records in JJIS. Records Management
Enter and maintain case management activities in JJIS; upload required forms into the JJIS file per rules. Community Collaboration
Build familiarity with community resources; provide input on provider service delivery and grant-related proposals; attend professional development trainings and meetings; follow departmental policies and rules. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Knowledge of case management practices, interviewing and counseling techniques; computer literacy; ability to make recommendations concerning processing of delinquent youth; ability to develop case plans; effective communication; work priority setting; ability to collaborate with community and judicial partners; ability to make independent decisions and document interviews. Minimum Qualifications
Four years of experience directly with adolescents in criminal justice, social services, or education fields. A valid driver’s license is required. Preferred Qualifications
Preference may be given to candidates with a bachelor’s degree or higher, or an associate degree with two years of relevant experience; preferences for Florida Juvenile Probation Officer certification or related experience; veterans benefits preferences may apply; related certifications or concentrations appreciated. Special Notes
CPR and First Aid certifications required to be maintained; non-traditional hours may be required; background checks and drug screening required; DJJ participates in E-Verify; driver’s license requirements and residency considerations apply; certification in DJJ direct care training or completion within 180 days of employment; recruitment assessments may be used for candidates outside the state system; 985.66 Florida Statute requirements (age, education, background checks) apply; compliance with fingerprinting and background investigations is mandatory; veterans’ preference documentation applies; accommodations available per ADA; all employees subject to drug testing; drug-free workplace policy.
