Tenure faculty (regardless of rank)
- Persons with the titles of professor, associate professor, assistant professor, and instructor who serve on appointments totaling 50% or more service to the university, and who are eligible for or have obtained tenure. Duties include research, service, and/or teaching or clinical practice, assigned according to workload guidelines of their respective faculty tenure initiation unit (TIU) and regional campus, as appropriate. Candidates must have earned a doctorate or other terminal degree in their field or possess equivalent experience.
Requires successful completion of a background check; selected candidates may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.
Faculty Definitions
Clinical faculty (regardless of rank)
- Hold titles of assistant professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical, or professor-clinical. They must have earned an MD, PhD, or other terminal degree. Clinical faculty are not eligible for tenure, are appointed for terms of three to five years, and may be reappointed. Their primary focus is delivering clinical care, with possible involvement in teaching and research.
Tenure-Track faculty (regardless of rank)
- Hold titles of assistant, associate, or full professor and are eligible for or have obtained tenure. They must have earned a doctorate, MD, or other terminal degree. Their main focus is research, service, and teaching. MD or MD/PhD faculty may also engage in clinical care.
Research Faculty (regardless of rank)
- Hold titles of research assistant professor, research associate professor, or research professor. They must have a doctorate or equivalent. Research faculty are not eligible for tenure, are appointed for one to five years, and primarily focus on research.
